Above Soapstone

Hey Team! Here is a painting I did a couple months ago. I really love how it came together. This is a beautiful spot in the Uinta mountains East of Kamas Utah. It is off of fire road 412 pretty close to 10,000' elevation. We were exploring in our jeep and stopped here for the views. This one is looking to the South and from the edge of a cliff to the East you can see Kings peak and the several of the other highest spots in Utah. A couple of months after we were up there, a huge wild fire burned the area for weeks. I don't think it will look like this again for several decades.

As I was painting this one I tired to make the deep shade evergreens without using any green. I used blues and purple to get the shadows and the green around it to give the impression of green trees. I like how that turned out.

This one is Oils on Panel at 24x12". It is on display in second floor gallery at the Provo City Library at Acacdemy Square. In a Utah Valley Artist Guild's Show that runs through December 2024. Go check it out! It is available for sale in the show or prints if you like. Let me know!

Here is the photo reference and the GPS coordinates from where I took it. 40.548203, -110.925000

And here are some work in progress progression shots.
